Roadrunners rally late for win over Oxnard
WHITTIER – Alexia Mayorga smacked a triple and double while pitching a complete game to help lead Rio Hondo College to an 8-3 non-conference win over visiting Oxnard College on Wednesday.
Trailing 2-1, the Roadrunners rallied for five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to secure their first win at home this season.
Mayorga's RBI-double in the fifth tied up the score at 2-2 and was a catalyst to the big inning. Brooklyn Romero, Abby Ramirez, and Denise Sanchez all came through with run-scoring singles while Sayuri Marquez also picked up one of her game-high 3 RBI in the inning.
Mayorga went the distance, scattering 10 hits over 7 innings while allowing 3 runs. She struck out 2 and walked a pair. At the plate, she finished 2 for 3 with 2 RBI and 2 runs.
Rio Hondo evened up its record at 2-2 overall. The Roadrunners are back in action on Tuesday (Feb. 4) when they travel to Oxnard for a 2:30 p.m. non-conference game.
