Citrus Calms College of the Canyons

Citrus College opened Western State Conference-East action Thursday with a 4-2 victory over College of the Canyons.

The Owls improve to 7-15 on the year and begin the conference at slate at 1-0. The Cougars drop to 9-5-1 and 0-1 in the WSC-East.

After Canyons scored first in the bottom of the third, Citrus responded with two runs in the fourth to take the lead and never looked back.

With a runner on third and one out, Alexis Cordero singled to left field, sending Rebekah Rudder home to tie the game. Patty Rodriguez then doubled to center to score Cordero and put the Owls in front, 2-1.

Citrus added another run in the sixth as Jillian Walker knocked an RBI double, before capping the scoring with a run in the seventh off a Mia Godoy RBI double, 4-1.

The Cougars tried to rally in the bottom half of the seventh and scored one run but the Owls held firm and wouldn't allow any more.

Jaidyn Harris picked up her third win of the year with five strikeouts in the circle for the Owls.

Citrus looks to build on the win as it heads to Long Beach City College for a non-conference contest.
