Tigers Pounce On Owls
No. 8-ranked Riverside City College closed out a busy week of four games in five days with a 3-2 victory at Citrus College Friday afternoon.
The Tigers improve to 12-4 on the year, while the Owls slip to 5-10 overall.
Logan Clear led RCC with a 2-for-4 showing at the plate, while Bubba Heidler (1-for-3), Ian Nguyen (1-for-4), and Eddie Alfaro (1-for-4) also had hits for the Tigers.
Riverside scored first as Alfaro came home on a Clear base hit in the top of the third, but Citrus evened things up in the bottom half of the inning.
The Owls then took the lead with a run in the bottom of the fourth, but the Tigers rallied in the seventh to take back the upper hand and held on for the victory. With two outs and one runner on, Heidler doubled down the right field line to send the tying run in. Heidler then scored the eventual game-winner as Citrus committed a crucial error to extend the inning.
Dylan Escobar picked up the win on the mound for ECC, finishing with four strikeouts in three innings of action. Erik Rodriguez earned a save after pitching 1.2 innings and only allowing one hit for the Owls.
Riverside heads into Orange Empire Conference action next week with three wins in tow, looking to build momentum. The Tigers face defending 3C2A State Champion, No. 3-ranked Saddleback College for a three-game series, beginning Tuesday at Saddleback at 2 p.m.
