BEAVERS WIN GAME ONE OF SERIES WITH DIABLO VALLEY

American River College got right back in the win column fresh off of their bye week with a 7-4 victory over visiting Diablo Valley College on Tuesday. Starting pitcher Ethan Palumbo (Antelope) was solid, allowing just four hits over 6 1/3 innings while striking out a pair. He allowed a run in the 3rd inning on a two out single and then a pair of runs in the 6th inning after loading the bases with no outs. He escaped the jam by getting a groundout and a sacrifice fly to score the two runs without any further damage. The Vikings inched closer in the 9th with back to back doubles off of freshman closer/DH Jackson Nichols (Valley Christian), but he was able to shut the door with a strikeout and a fly out to end the game.
Offensively the Beavers scored often, plating runs in every inning except for the 5th and 7th innings. Freshman 1B Lance Sabatke (River City) had a pair of RBI singles and freshman SS Ramon Esparza (Roseville) had two hits on the day, one of them an RBI single in the 3rd inning. Sophomore 2B Jayden Reynolds (Bella Vista) scored three times for the Beavers.
The Beavers and Vikings will move on to game two of their three game series on Thursday at Diablo Valley College at 2:00 p.m.
