Walnut, Calif. – The Mt. SAC Men's Baseball Team came out on top in a high-scoring showdown, completing a three-game sweep over East Los Angeles College with a 15-11 win on Saturday, March 8. The Mounties extended their winning streak to 11 games, improving their season record to 17-3, while the Huskies fell to 8-11.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Determined to avoid a sweep, East Los Angeles came out strong in the first inning. Chris Guardado's two-RBI single drove in Matias Nolasco and Evan Chavez, giving the Huskies an early 2-0 lead. They added another run in the second when Mahki Clark delivered an RBI single.
The Mounties responded in the third with a five-run surge. Landon White sparked the rally with a two-RBI double, bringing in Bryan Bradshaw and Noah Rodriguez. Ty Thomas and Diego Ortiz followed with RBI singles before Ortiz later scored on a passed ball, putting Mt. SAC ahead 5-3.
ELAC fought back in the fourth, tying the game at 5-5 with a two-RBI single from Jose Guzman. However, the Mounties quickly regained control. White's RBI single in the fourth put them back on top, followed by an explosive seven-run fifth inning. Terrell Jackson Jr.'s single plated Miguel Perez and Tyler Stull, while Rodriguez knocked in Cole Nachreiner. White continued his dominant performance with a two-RBI hit, and Bradshaw came home on a bases-loaded walk. Stull capped off the inning with a sacrifice fly, extending Mt. SAC's lead to 13-5. The Mounties tacked on another run in the sixth with an RBI single from Rodriguez.
ELAC refused to back down, cutting into the deficit in the seventh when Mahki Clark smashed a three-run triple, bringing the score to 14-8. The Huskies added another run in the eighth with a solo homer from Ramirez Jr.
White notched his sixth RBI of the game in the bottom of the eighth, driving in Rodriguez for Mt. SAC's final run. ELAC made one last push in the ninth with RBI singles from Nolasco and Guardado, but the Mounties held on for the 15-11 win.
