Monterey Park, Calif. – In a rescheduled doubleheader due to a rain delay, the Mt. SAC Women's Softball Team took down East Los Angeles College 12-0 and 9-0 on Thursday, March 27. The Mounties are now on a five-game winning streak, with all victories ending in five innings due to the "run rule," and four of them were shutouts.

GAME 1:

The first two innings of this game were originally played on Thursday, March 6, before it was eventually called due to weather. But the rain didn't stop the Mounties from performing in dominant fashion, starting with a solo home run from Katie Griego. Morgan Kneubuhler and Kiana Kadena added RBI doubles to give Mt. SAC a 3-0 lead after the first inning.

The Huskies were having trouble on the mound, walking several Mounties and eventually walking in Kamyla Cerda for a run. Sarai Raygoza came home on a wild pitch and Kneubuhler grounded out to third base, but Samantha Orozco scored as Mt. SAC extended their lead to 7-0 after the second inning before the game was called.

When play resumed three weeks later, the Mounties picked up right where they left off. Mia Martin singled to center field, driving in Audrey White and Kadena. An error by the Huskies allowed Martin to score, and Orozco's RBI single to left center brought in Raygoza, adding four more runs in the third.

The game concluded just as it began; with a second solo homer, this time from Kneubuhler, as Mt. SAC wrapped up a 12-0 victory. Isabella Guerrero earned the win, facing 16 batters in four innings, allowing just one hit and striking out four, while Mariah Figueroa closed out the game to keep the Huskies scoreless.

GAME 2:

Mt. SAC carried their momentum into the second game where Orozco got the Mounties on the board in the top of the first with a double to left center that brought in Raygoza. Amanda Porterfield added on in the second when she grounded out to second base, allowing Griego to score.

The Mounties kept the pressure in the third as Griego singled to shortstop, scoring Orozco. Then, Samantha Vizcarra's single to left drove in Kneubuhler, extending the lead to 5-0.

Mt. SAC capped their scoring in the fourth, adding four more runs. Isabella Guerrero scored on a Husky throw error, and a powerful triple from Vanessa Tamayo, followed by a single from Peyton Clark and a double from Samantha Chavez, brought in three more runs, sealing the 9-0 win. Vizcarra was dominant in the circle, pitching four innings, allowing just two hits, and striking out four.
