Vaqs Sweep Doubleheader Against Coalinga

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Santa Barbara City College combined for 19 runs over the two victories against Coalinga College at Pershing Park on Wednesday.

Koehn Thomas (3-1) picked up his third win of the season in the first game as the Vaqueros defeated the Falcons 9-4.

Brendon Cekada went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, including a double. Will Matuszak continued his hot-hitting from the leadoff spot collecting two hits, two RBIs and two stolen bases. Benjamin Strutt collected two hits, an RBI and three stolen bags.

The Vaqueros bats stayed hot in the second game, securing a 10-2 win. 

Jake Thrift (1-1) picked up his first victory of the season in his second start and eighth appearance. He allowed two runs on five hits over four innings while striking out six. 

Jonathan Peric picked up his first save of the season in three scoreless innings of relief, also striking out six.

Matuszak launched a three-run homer to left in the third inning and added another stolen base. On the season, the shortstop is hitting .341 with a team-high 20 RBIs and ranks second on the club with 18 stolen bases, trailing only Strutt's 19.

Ben Fabbian went 3-for-4 with two RBIs, while Ethan Rodriguez collected his third triple of the season.

Santa Barbara is now 14-8 and travels to Riverside for a game at 3 p.m. Thursday.
