SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The Santa Barbara City College softball team secured its first win of the season in dominant fashion, defeating Cerro Coso 11-2 in five innings before falling just short in a 6-5 loss in the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader at Pershing Park.
Alena Johnson (1-2) earned her first win of the year, pitching five strong innings while allowing just two runs (one earned) and striking out four. She also made an impact at the plate, driving in four RBIs.
Catcher Amarise Camargo, making her season debut fresh off basketball, entered as a pinch-hitter in the second inning with the bases loaded. She wasted no time making an impact, driving in her first RBI with a sacrifice fly to right field.
The Vaqueros' offense came alive, with Mia Reveles and Morgan Grove delivering RBI triples. Katelyn Lisi added three RBIs, helping SBCC secure the run-rule victory.
In the second game, Johnson took the circle again, tossing five innings while allowing four runs (two earned) and striking out three. She exited with a no-decision as Cerro Coso tied the game in the sixth before pushing across the winning run in the seventh.
Reveles continued her strong day at the plate, adding a double, while Mia Gaitan showcased her speed with two stolen bases.
The Vaqueros (1-4) were scheduled to play Thursday, but the game was postponed due to weather. They return to action on Tuesday, hosting Ventura at Pershing Park.
