PLEASANT HILL – Diablo Valley improves their record to 28-8 overall, 14-5 in conference after a 4-1 victory over the American River Beavers due in large part to Cynthia Duenas' three RBI performance.
Two of those three RBIs came off Duenas' double in the bottom of the 3rd inning that scored Amber Golini (sophomore, Concord) and Ashley Allen (redshirt freshman, Clayton Valley). The Vikes would add on another run in the 3rd inning as Bailey Simmons (freshman, Pinole Valley) attempted to steal 2nd but got caught up in a run-down. The run-down allowed Duenas to make a heady play, scoring from 3rd base.
Nicole Nordahl (freshman, Albany) went the full 7 innings, only giving up 1 earned run and striking out 4. Nordahl was one out away from her 5th shutout before American River broke up the bid with a Michelle Tarlandouk RBI single in the 7th inning.
Arguably the biggest highlights came after the game as the sophomores on the team were recognized for their two years of service with DVC Softball. Isabell Vergara (Concord), Carrie Lee (Alameda), Amber Golini (Concord), Selena Townsend (Pittsburg), and Sara Cundy (College Park) all received personal plaques in-between game 1 and 2 of the doubleheader. Redshirt freshman, Ashley Allen, also received a plaque for her time with DVC, transferring after one year to join California State University, East Bay in the fall.
