HUNTINGTON BEACH - The Marauder softball team struggled on the mound Friday afternoon as it dropped a pair games to Santa Barbara City College, 8-6 in six innings, followed by a loss to Southwestern College, 8-4 in five innings, at the Golden West Tournament.
In the second game against Southwestern, pitchers Maria Acosta and Naelyse Garcia had problems finding the strike zone as the two combined for 13 walks in only 2 1/3 innings pitched. AVC pitchers gave up a total of 15 walks but only two hits.
The Marauders took a 1-0 lead following the top of the second inning, but Southwestern exploded for five runs in the bottom half of the inning. AVC loaded the bases and with the score tied, 1-1, Sandra Reza doubled scoring three Southwestern players.
AVC's Priscella Panzio was 3-for-3 with an RBI for the Marauders, which out hit Southwestern, 10-2. Dolly Stevens and Angelica Ochoa both went 2-for-3 for the Marauders.
Stevens was 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBI against Santa Barbara and Ochoa was 1-for-2 with two RBI.
AVC led 4-3, following the top half of the second inning, but Santa Barbara rallied with four runs in the bottom of the second inning taking a 7-4 lead which it wouldn't relinquish.
Once again, AVC's piching hurt them as Garcia and Acosta combined for six walks. Acosta was 2-for-3 with a run scored in the game.
