Vaqueros Outduel Allan Hancock

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. –  On a blustery Tuesday at Pershing Park, Santa Barbara City College's pitchers outlasted Allan Hancock College's staff to earn a 3-1 win.

Joseph Talarico improved to 7-2 as he scattered six hits across six and one-third innings while allowing just one earned run and striking out five. The starting pitcher now leads the Western State Conference in wins, is third in ERA at 1.72, and is tied for sixth in strikeouts with 49 on the season.

Aidan Camberg collected his seventh RBI in his last five games when he scored Will Matuszak with a sacrifice fly in the first inning. 

Cole Ide had two hits, including an RBI single in the third inning to score Matuszak for a 2-0 lead.

Ethan Rodriguez added an insurance run in the seventh inning with his RBI knock to right field that scored Ben Fabbian.

Trevor Kester-Johnson pitched one and two-thirds scoreless innings in relief. He has yet to surrender an earned run across 11 appearances this season.

Darren Orlando picked up his second save of the year, tossing a hitless ninth inning while striking out two.

Santa Barbara improved to 18-9 overall and 10-3 in conference play.

The Vaqueros and Bulldogs face off again on Thursday at Allan Hancock before returning to Pershing Park at 1 p.m. on Saturday to finish the series.
