No. 7 Softball Sweeps El Camino in Conference Series

The No. 7 Long Beach City College softball team swept El Camino in the final game of the three-game conference series with a 7-4 victory. With the win, the Vikings are 26-10 overall and are 14-5 in the South Coast Conference.

Sophomore pitcher Daisy Torres (20-8) earned the win in the circle with only allowing the Warrirors to four runs, while striking out seven in seven innings of work.

The Vikings got things started in the bottom of the first inning with RBI singles from freshman catcher Jaylene Ross and freshman designated person Gladys Garcia to lead the Warriors 2-0.

Garcia then smashed a three-run homer to center field in the bottom of the third to extend the Vikings over the Warriors 5-0. Garcia was offensivley consistent at the dish as she went two-for-two at-bat with one run and tallied four RBIs.

El Camino put themselves on the board in the top of the fourth, only to be followed up with two more runs from the Vikings to command the lead at 7-1.

The Warriors tried to rally in the top of the fifth with three more runs, but the Vikings shut them down to then take home the 7-4 win and the conference series sweep.

The Long Beach City College Vikings will be back on the field on Friday, April 22 at Mt. San Antonio College at 3 p.m.
