Walnut, Calif. – In an important South Coast Conference showdown, the Mt. SAC Softball Team emerged victorious with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Cerritos College on Tuesday, February 25. With the victory, the Mounties improve to 8-5 overall and 4-2 in conference play, while the Falcons drop to 9-2 overall, suffering their first conference loss (3-1).
The matchup featured two of the state's top-ranked teams, with Mt. SAC sitting at No. 11 in the latest California Community College Fastpitch Coaches Association Poll and Cerritos ranked No. 4.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
In a tightly contested pitchers' duel, both teams struggled to generate offense against dominant performances on the mound. Mt. SAC's Kayden Connaty delivered an impressive outing, throwing a complete game and allowing no earned runs on six hits while striking out four. Cerritos' Tatyana Cortez was equally dominant, giving up just two hits and one earned run while striking out three.
The Mounties broke through in the bottom of the third when Samantha Orozco hit a double to left-center field, driving in Mia Martin for the game's only run. That lone RBI proved to be the difference-maker, securing the win for Mt. SAC.
