The MSJC baseball team opened Inland Empire Athletic Conference play last week playing Chaffey in a three- game series.
The Eagles won the first game of the week at home on Tuesday 13-9. MSJC jumped ahead 7-0 through four innings and then fought off a couple of Panther comeback attempts scoring three runs each in the bottom of the sixth and eighth to hold on for the win. Juni Rodriguez had a big day at the plate for the Eagles going three for four with five RBIs. Derek Hurtado had two hits and three RBIs in the victory and Justin Garanado knocked in two runs and hit a triple. Chad Horton earned the pitching victory, his second of the season.
Thursday in Rancho Cucamonga the Eagles could not get their bats on track as they managed just three hits in a 12-0 loss. Saturday back in San Jacinto the two teams battled to a 2-2 tie through eight innings before two runs in the top of the ninth gave Chaffey the 4-2 victory. Hurtado again had a pair of hits for MSJC while Granado and Rodriguez each drove home a run. Easton Wagoner had a strong start on the mound going five innings and allowing just one earned run while striking out five.

Tuesday's game will start at 2 pm and then on Thursday the two teams will meet in San Bernardino at 1 pm. Saturday's series finale will be back at MSJC with the first pitch scheduled for one.
