Roadrunners Off to Best Start Since 2012; Earn Fourth Straight Win at Yuba

Marysville, Calif. - The Butte baseball team is off to its best start since 2012 in a normal, non-COVID season schedule, winning its fourth straight with a 16-9 win at Yuba on Monday afternoon.

Butte got off to a rough start, falling behind 6-1 in the first third of the game before a big eight-inning fourth propelled the team on top. Yuba threatened with a two-run inning in the sixth, but the Roadrunners tallied a five-run eighth and tacked on another pair of insurance runs in the top of the ninth.

Sophomores Patrick Barry and Landon Gomes led the Roadrunners at the plate. Barry went 4-for-5, including a double and triple, with a pair of RBI, while Gomes went 3-for-6 with a double, homerun, four RBI and three runs scored. Sophomore Kolby Amaral chalked up a homer of his own, while freshman Connor Pawlowski rounded out the extra-base hits with his lone hit coming as a double.

On the mound, sophomore Ian Sweringen (1-0) earned the win, tossing one complete and facing six batters. He allowed three hits and a run. Freshman Shaw Lee got his first start for the Roadrunners, while sophomore Hayden Bode led all pitchers with four strikeouts. Sophomore Kyle Kucich closed the game on a one-hit ninth inning with a pair of strikeouts.

Butte (4-0) remains on the road, heading to Skyline for a three-game series. The first game will be on Thursday, Feb. 2 at 2 p.m.
