Spartans Secure First Place After Big Friday

Frazee Beach in Carlsbad during a women's beach volleyball contest.

Heading into Friday's conference match the Spartans were tied for first place with Long Beach City College and Grossmont College. It was a competitive day of beach volleyball with first place on the line, and fueled by the depth and talent in their line up, MiraCosta came out with two wins.

In a very close first match the Spartans edged Grossmont by a 3-2 score.  In the final flight of the match the 4's teams went to three games and the Spartans duo, Chloe Tripp and Claire Kinder, won 15-13 in an exciting finish.

In their second match of the day MiraCosta took on Long Beach City College and swept them 5-0, winning each flight in two games.  The duo of Alysia Baker and Lana Salazar played inspired volleyball and finished a perfect 2-0 and never lost a set.

The Spartans improve to 12-2 overall and a perfect 6-0 in conference play.  Next week the same three colleges will come together to play their second three way competition at Long Beach City's home venue, Granada Beach in Long Beach.
