BAKERSFIELD, CA - The Bakersfield College softball team overcame an early deficit to defeat the LA Harbor College Seahawks 6-4 on Saturday, thanks to a dominant relief performance from Alexia Martinez. LA Harbor started strong, scoring four runs in the first inning. However, the Renegades immediately responded with four runs of their own in the bottom of the inning, fueled by key RBIs from Brylee Bramhall, Andrea Barajas, and Isabella Rodriguez.
After a rocky start, BC's pitching settled in as Martinez took over in relief, shutting down LA Harbor's offense over 6.2 scoreless innings while allowing only two hits and striking out six. Bakersfield took the lead in the fifth inning when Elizabeth Alderete drove in a run on a groundout, and they added an insurance run in the sixth on an RBI single from Martinez, capping off a strong performance at the plate and in the circle.
Despite a complete-game effort from LA Harbor's Yvette Ramirez, who allowed four earned runs on eight hits, Bakersfield capitalized on key opportunities and remained steady on defense, finishing the game without committing an error.
The Renegades improve their record to 7-9 and will play their next three games at home. First up, BC will host Moorpark on Tuesday, March 4th with first pitch set for 2:30pm.
