
The VC baseball team made it two straight wins against Oxnard on Wednesday with an 8-3 road victory. Caden Stillwell had a double and a single with two runs batted in and a run scored while Matthew Ramirez recorded two hits with two runs scored and an RBI. Hunter Cervantes was 3-5 at the plate. Jacob Tostado pitched five complete innings, giving up two runs on three hits with five strikeouts to pick up the win on the mound. Cole Blommer and Austin Kurr each pitched two innings in relief.
The Condors took the early lead with single runs in the first and second innings. VC started the comeback with a two-run fourth.
Frederico Tiburtini reached first base on an error to begin the inning and Tommy Castaneda followed with a walk. Cervantes singles to load the bases before Henry Borjas hit a sacrifice fly to center to score a run. Ramirez then hit an RBI single and the game was tied, 2-2.
The score remained until Ventura rallied for four runs in the top of the sixth to take control of the game. Borjas led off with a walk and Ramirez singled. Grant Rodriguez was hit by a pitch to fill the diamond and Stillwell and Daniel Aguilera each drew a base on balls to force home two runs. Lucas Martinov then hit a sacrifice fly to right field and Tiburtini hit an RBI single.
In the seventh, VC added two more runs when Stillwell hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score Borjas. Ramirez also scored on the play on an error for an 8-2 margin.
Oxnard plated one run in the bottom of the seventh, but never threatened the Pirates for the remainder of the game.
The Pirates and Condors are scheduled to conclude their series on Friday Mar. 14 at Pirate Park. First pitch is slated for 2:00 pm.
