
Behind a two-hit performance by pitcher Bryanne Magana, the Pirates softball team shutout visiting Pasadena 6-0 Friday afternoon at the VC Softball Complex. Alyssa Castaneda recorded three hits, including two doubles, with a run batted in and Baylany Magana scored twice from a pair of hits to lead the victory. Br. Magana pitched a complete game while striking out three to pick up her third win on the year.
VC opened the game with an unearned run in the bottom of the first. Ba. Magana led off with a single and stole second. She advanced to third on Erika Sanchez's ground out and scored when Savanna Higgins reached base on an error.
The Pirates added three runs in the fifth inning. With two outs, Higgins tripled to left field. Jennie Jacinto followed with an RBI single then stole second. Br. Magana then hit an RBI single and moved into scoring position on the throw to the plate. Castaneda followed with an RBI double to put Ventura ahead 4-0.
The Pirates added a pair of insurance runs in the sixth frame. Aubrey Aguirre led off by reaching base on a HBP. Lily Jimenez sacrificed Aguirre to second and Ba. Magana moved the runner to third with a single. Sanchez followed with an RBI single, moving Ba. Magana to third. One out later, Magana scored on a double steal with Sanchez taking second.
Ventura next hosts Victor Valley on Thursday Feb. 6 with a 2:00 pm game.
