
Game 1- Cougars Walk It Off Against Reedley College
It came down to the wire on Tuesday, March 11, as Taft College grabbed the victory in walk-off fashion, 6-5, over Reedley College Tigers. The game was tied at five in the bottom of the seventh when Cadence Mizner singled, scoring one run.
Despite falling down by five runs in the third inning, Reedley College tried to fight back. Reedley closed the gap by scoring on a home run, a double, a hit by pitch, and a hit by pitch.
The Cougars opened the scoring in the first after Mischa Mott homered to center field, scoring three runs.
Ava Heitman hit a solo home run to center field in the bottom of the second for the Cougars.
A single by Echo Pallesen extended the Cougars lead to 5-0 in the bottom of the third inning.
Reedley tied the game up in the top of the seventh thanks to two hit by pitches. The Tigers tied the game at five on a hit by a pitch.
Heitman earned the win for the Cougars. The starter allowed five hits and five runs (four earned) over seven innings, striking out one and walking four. Sierra Hallum took the loss for Reedley. The pitcher went six and one-third innings, giving up six runs on eight hits, striking out one and walking three.
Mott provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Taft with three runs batted in. The infielder went 1-for-2 on the day. Mizner went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Taft in hits. The Cougars turned one double play in the game.
Celine Ramos went 1-for-3 at the plate and led the team with three runs batted in. Ashlee Chavez, Za'cari Donald, Ramos, Katelyn Edmundson, and Hallum each collected one hit for the Tigers. Reedley had patience at the plate, collecting four walks for the game. The Tigers didn't commit a single error in the field. Chavez had the most chances in the field with six.
Game 2- Cougars Hold Onto Victory as Reedley Tigers Almost Erase 6-Run Deficit
Despite seeing their 6-run lead whittled down by the end, the Cougars still held off for an 8-6 victory on Tuesday. Reedley College closed the gap by scoring on a solo home run, an error, a double, a double, and a single.
The Cougars jumped out to the lead in the bottom of the first inning after Cadence Mizner tripled, scoring two runs, Mischa Mott singled, scoring one run, and a steal of home scored one run.
Two more Cougar runs crossed the plate in the third inning to extend the lead to 6-0. Mizner hit a solo home run to left field, and an error scored one run.
Jada Mizner earned the win for Taft. The starter surrendered six hits and six runs (four earned) over six and one-third innings, striking out four and walking three. Sierra Hallum took the loss for Reedley. The reliever went six innings, giving up four runs (one earned) on six hits, striking out one and walking none. Ava Heitman appeared in relief for Taft.
Mizner provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led the Cougars with three runs batted in. The shortstop went 2-for-4 on the day. Hanna Hendricks, Laie Keahi, Mizner, and Mott each collected two hits for Cougars. Kate Moore stole two bases. The Cougars stole four bases in the game.
Reedley's Ashlee Chavez, the number seven hitter, led the Tigers with two hits in three at bats. Elissa Olea led Reedley College with two runs batted in. The pitcher went 1-for-4 on the day.
