
The VC women's tennis team opened the 2025 season with a close 6-3 setback at Orange Coast Thursday afternoon. Nicole Iannacone and Kira Branson along with Dulce Contreras and Sherry Bonilla each won doubles matches while Lola Tennison claimed VC's lone singles victory against the 2024 state finalists.
Iannacone and Branson won in No. 1 doubles, 9-7 while Contreras and Bonilla prevailed in the No. 3 doubles match, 8-6. Tennison and Chandra Padua narrowly dropped their No. 2 doubles contest, 8-5 as Ventura led 2-1 heading to singles play.
Tennison won in No. 2 singles 6-4, 6-2 for the Pirates' third point of the match. Branson fell in No. 3 singles 6-3, 2-6, 10-8 while Contreras narrowly fell in No. 6 singles, 6-3, 1-6, 10-7.
Ventura returns home on Tuesday Feb. 4 to open Western State Conference play against Glendale. Double play will begin at 2:00 pm at the VC Tennis Center.
