Santa Rosa Shuts Out Sacramento City, 2-0
Santa Rosa relied on dominant pitching from Mia Avila and timely hitting from Mira Olvera to secure a 2-0 victory over Sacramento City on March 1, 2025. Avila threw a complete-game shutout, allowing just one hit while striking out five to improve her record to 4-3.
Avila's Gem Leads the Way
Avila was in complete control throughout the game, retiring 23 of the 24 batters she faced. The only hit she allowed came in the first inning when Sacramento City's Chloe Kimbrell singled. After that, Avila shut the door, keeping the Panthers off the bases and preventing any serious scoring threats.
Santa Rosa Capitalizes on Opportunities
Santa Rosa broke through in the third inning thanks to aggressive baserunning and a defensive miscue. Kayla Ling reached base and later scored when Mira Olvera hit a fielder's choice grounder, which led to an error at second base, giving the Bear Cubs a 1-0 lead.
In the fifth, Santa Rosa added an insurance run when Gabby Schenone singled and later came home on a clutch RBI double down the left-field line by Olvera, making it 2-0.
Sacramento City Struggles at the Plate
The Panthers couldn't generate offense against Avila, managing just one hit and one walk in the game. They were held hitless over the final six innings.
Ava Seguin (4-1) took the loss for Sacramento City, allowing two earned runs on five hits over 4.1 innings. Iliana Cano pitched the final 1.2 innings in relief, retiring all five batters she faced.
