LANCASTER - Marauder women's soccer head coach Charles Gordon didn't get the proverbial Gatorade shower following the first win ever for the first-year coach.
Too bad for Gordon, as temperatures scorched to more than 105 degrees on Tuesday afternoon and probably more than that on the field.
Certainly Gordon wasn't too worried. The main thing Gordon was concerned about was the victory.
And that's what he got with his team's 2-0 victory over Grossmont College, Tuesday afternoon at Antelope Valley College.
"It was great to see the excitement and confidence on the girls' faces. They're really buying in," said Gordon, in his first year after leaving a successful program at Quartz Hill High School. "One of the benefits of today's game was to be able to reflect on Saturday's game (against LA Pierce College) and work on some of our weaknesses. That game was a great help in getting them prepared for today's game."
The Marauders (1-1), coming off a tough loss on Saturday evening to Pierce, dominated the second half and got a goal each from Cindy Martin (48:20) and Jennifer Bowers (65:16) to take control of the game.
