Bakersfield Opens Playoffs with 5-0 win over San Diego

BAKERSFIELD, CA - The Bakersfield College women's tennis team got the postseason off on the right foot with a convincing 5-0 win over the number 5th seed, San Diego College in the opening round of the Southern California Dual Regional Playoffs on Tuesday at the BC Tennis Courts.

With the win, the first-seeded Renegades will take on Riverside City College on Tuesday, April 15 at 2 p.m. at BC. 

BC set the tone of the playoff showdown with the San Diego Pirates early, putting Bakersfield up 3-0 in the race to five wins. No. 1 team of Breanna Hiebert and Hannah Kratt won 8-0 over SDCC's Angie Palmerin and Betty Gezahegne. The No. 2 duo of Taylor Crider and Lua defeated Jennifer Hoffpauir and Chiara Burin, 8-3, and Pavletich and Kayleah Sanchez, playing at No. 3 doubles, won 8-3 over Thi Dang and Anya Villanueva.

Lua defeated Gezahegne 6-2, 6-0 and Pavletich won 6-0, 6-0 over Villanueva for the the Renegades to call it a win. Matches involving Hiebert, Kratt, Crider, and Sanchez were halted. 

The win improves BC's impressive record to 17-0 as they continue to make history.
