Whittier, Calif. – As their incredible season continues, the Mt. SAC Baseball Team got the sweep over Rio Hondo with a 16-3 victory on Saturday, March 15. After this game, the Mounties' record improves to 20-3 overall with a perfect 9-0 in conference play as they collect their 16th consecutive win. On the other hand, Rio Hondo falls to 4-20 on the season, with a 2-10 record in conference action after suffering their seventh straight loss.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Tyler Stull got things going for Mt. SAC when he launched a three-run homer in the top of the third that drove in Ty Thomas and Landon White, putting the Mounties up 3-0. They kept the momentum going in the fourth with two more runs. Diego Ortiz scored on a passed ball, and White added a sacrifice fly to centerfield that brought in Joel Gutierrez, making it 5-0.

Their bats stayed hot going into the fifth as they added three more runs. Ortiz plated Thomas with a sacrifice fly, and singles from Gutierrez and Noah Rodriguez drove in Stull and Nachreiner, respectively, extending the lead to 8-0.

Mt. SAC remained relentless, adding another three runs in the sixth. Stull doubled in a run, while Ortiz and Gutierrez each contributed RBI singles. The Mounties took a commanding 12-0 lead after Diego Villa's sacrifice fly in the eighth, bringing Stull across the plate.

But the Roadrunners refused to be shutout, bringing in three runs of their own in the bottom of the eighth after an RBI single from Marcus Hernandez and a two-run single from Josh Zarate, that cut the deficit to 12-3.

The Mounties reinforced their dominance as they wrapped up the game with an additional four runs thanks to White's RBI single, a two-run triple by Terrell Jackson Jr., and a Rio Hondo error that allowed Jackson Jr. to score.
