
The VC softball team swept a double header at Chaffey, 9-3 and 5-2. Baylany Magana recorded six hits, including a triple, with two RBI and two runs scored in the sweep and she pitched a complete game in the nightcap, allowing two runs over seven innings. Madison Shay had three triples, a double and a single with two RBI and four runs scored on the day.
Ventura 9, Chaffey 3
The Pirates used a six-run third inning to defeat the Panthers in the opener.
Bryanne Magana singled home Shay in the top of the second for a 1-0 Ventura advantage.
VC then blew the game open in the third. Ba. Magana opened the inning with a walk and scored when Dakota Moore reached base on an error. Moore then came around to score on the play for a pair of unearned runs. One out later Shay, Jennie Jacinto and Br. Magana all singled to load the bases. Erika Sanchez walked in a run and Alyssa Castaneda hit a double that scored two more runs. After Aubrey Aguirre drew a base on balls, Ba. Magana hit an RBI single for the 7-0 Pirate lead.
Sanchez singled home Br. Magana in the top of the fourth, and a Shay triple and Jacinto RBI single led to another run in the sixth.
Br. Magana had a stellar outing in the circle, pitching a complete game, giving up three runs, one earned, in picking up the win.
Ventura 5, Chaffey 2
Ventura jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning and made it stand through the game in the victory.
Shay tripled home B. Magana and Savanna Higgins with one out in the first, then scored on Jacinto's single for a 3-0 lead. The Panthers responded with one run in the bottom half of the frame.
Sanchez hit a lead-off single in the top of the fourth and came home to score on an error to expand the Pirate advantage.
VC added an insurance run in the top of the seventh when Sophia Valencia walked and Ba. Magana tripled with the RBI. Chaffey scored once in the bottom half of the inning to set the final margin.
Ba. Magana was 4-4 at the plate with a triple, one RBI and a run scored and Shay had two hits with two RBI and a run scored.
Ba. Magana also had a solid effort in the cricle allowing two runs in the complete-game victory.
The Pirates next host Victor Valley for a double-header on Friday Feb. 28.
