Vikings Fall to East Los Angeles Despite Late Push
The Vikings couldn't overcome an early deficit, falling 7-2 to ELAC on Thursday afternoon.
The Long Beach City College baseball team couldn't overcome an early deficit, falling 7-2 to the East Los Angeles College Huskies on Thursday afternoon.
East Los Angeles took control early, scoring in the third and fourth innings to build a 2-0 lead. The Huskies extended their advantage in the sixth with a pair of runs.
Long Beach found the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth when first baseman Max Ghiglieri lifted a sacrifice fly to center, scoring second baseman Cross Stephens to cut the deficit to 4-1. However, the Huskies responded with two more runs in the seventh, taking advantage of an error and a two-run double to extend their lead to 7-1.
The Vikings continued to battle in the eighth, as Ghiglieri came through again with an RBI single, scoring Stephens for his second run of the game. Despite getting runners on, Long Beach couldn't close the gap further.
"It's rough starting conference off 0-2," said Ghiglieri. "Hopefully we come with our heads up on Saturday and get ready to roll.
On the mound, Logan Carr (0-3) took the loss, throwing five innings while allowing seven hits, four earned runs, four walks, and striking out two.
With the loss, the Vikings will look to bounce back in their next game on Saturday, February 22 at East Los Angeles College at 12 p.m.
