OXNARD - The Marauder women's soccer team has been on a recent tear.
Since an opening season loss to L.A. Pierce College, AVC won its next two games and Saturday night at the Oxnard Tournament, the Marauders scored all four of their goals in the first half and managed a 4-4 tie with College of the Sequoias.
Mackenzie Broderick who has decimated goal keepers in recent games scored a hat trick with all three of her goals coming in the first half. The redshirt freshman scored two goals in a lopsided victory against Cerro Coso on Friday.
"We definitely deserve (this good start to the season). We've been working hard all summer," said Broderick. "I love the coaching staff. I've learned so much. I think we're really starting to get to know each other and how each other plays."
AVC (2-1-1) took a 3-1 lead following three goals by Broderick. The Giants (0-0-1) responded with a couple of quick goals from Hunter Lapp to even the score, 3-3. Brooke Fairweather gave the Marauders the lead 4-3, following a goal that was assisted by Cindy Martin.
But Lapp, who had a hat trick of her own, scored only two minutes later and the game was tied.
