No. 5-ranked Riverside City College opened its Orange Empire Conference series with No. 10-ranked Golden West College with a close 7-6 loss on the road Saturday afternoon.
The Tigers drop to 14-6 overall and 2-2 in the OEC, while the Rustlers improve to 15-6 on the year and remain undefeated in conference at 4-0.
Bubba Heidler led the Tigers with a 2-for-5 appearance at the plate, while Ian Nguyen (1-for-5), Luke Medure (1-for-3) and Danny Inzunza (1-for-3) also had hits for Riverside.
Jorge Rodriguez (5), Austin Torres (3) and Andrew Martin (2) combined for 10 strikeouts in the game on the mound for the Tigers.
RCC and GWC continue the series on Sunday at noon at Evans Sports Complex before closing it out on Monday at 3 p.m., also in Riverside.
