LANCASTER - Most times you would only see these types of numbers put up in a video game, not in a softball game.
The Marauder softball team put up insane numbers in a double header against Glendale College by scoring 40 combined runs and pounding out 33 hits. The Marauders won the first game of the double header 16-8, followed by an easy 24-11 victory in the second game, Tuesday afternoon.
Oh, by the way, the Marauders hit a combined eight home runs, including two by Dolly Stevens in the first game and two each by Priscella Panizo and Angelica Ochoa in the second.
In both games Stevens was a combined 7-for-8 with eight runs scored and nine RBI. Ochoa was 3-for-3 in the second game with six RBI and three runs scored. Erica Serfoss, who ranks in the top 10 in batting average in the state, was 5-for-10 over the two games with seven RBI.
"Our hitting was on fire, but we still have to work on our defense. We don't like to give up that many runs," Stevens said. "Our walks and errors have to improve. But these (two wins) are definitely a confidence boost for us. We need to make the plays that are there and have our pitchers' backs."
Something that has been a thorn in the Marauders' side all season has been their pitching and defense. Against a sub .500 team in the Vaqueros, AVC gave up 19 runs and 13 hits, which the Marauders know has to be cleaned up. Also, in both games AVC combined for 20 walks and five errors.
