The VC baseball team "traveled" to Pirate Park Saturday to play as the away team against Los Angeles Pierce, falling 6-3 in the series finale against the Brahmas. Grant Rodriguez had a pair of doubles and scored a run while Henry Borjas also recorded two hits and a run scored. Caden Stillwell was 1-3 with a run scored and Matthew Ramirez had a hit and a run batted in. Jacob Roa gave up five runs over six complete innings on the mound and Austin Kurr threw two innings in relief.
The Brahmas took the early edge with three runs in the bottom of the third. VC responded, however, with a three-run fourth inning. Borjas led off with a walk and Rodriguez hit a one-out double to put two runners in scoring position. Borjas scored on a wild pitch before Stillwell was hit by a pitch to put runners at the corners. Ramirez then hit an RBI single to score Rodriguez that also moved Stillwell to second. Stillwell then advanced two bases on a wild pitch allowing the Pirates to even the score at 3-3.
Unfortunately, LAPC countered with two runs in the bottom of the fifth and scored another run in the seventh to set the final 6-3 margin.
Ventura opens a three-game set with Moorpark with a home game on Tuesday Feb. 25. First pitch will be at 2:00 pm at Pirate Park.
