The GCC Women's Softball Team began their 2025 Western State Conference South slate on the road Tuesday March 11 against the Citrus College Owls in a game that ended in a 10-2, five-inning setback. Glendale continued their stretch of nine out of eleven games away from the Sports Complex on Saturday in a three-way hosted by College of the Desert (COD). In the first game against the Imperial Valley College Desert Warriors (IVC), GCC came out on top, 8-4. In the second game, they fell to COD for the third time this season - but with a much more competitive 8-6 final.
Annaliese Ruiz had quite the week at the plate collecting a team-high seven hits in ten at bats - including six consecutive hits and four RBIs over the weekend. She increased her average by 70 points, which now sits at .380. Ruiz also pitched two complete games recording eleven strikeouts over twelve innings against Citrus and IVC.
Other offensive standouts this week were Tati Pisa with five hits that included one double, six runs scored, three RBI and a team-high four stolen bases - apart of the team's nine against IVC; Catarina Anzalone with five hits including two triples, four runs scored and three stolen bases against IVC; Nazzelli Zohrabian with three hits; and Emma Mendoza with a 2-run triple to seal the lone Vaquero win.
The Vaqueros (8-10 overall) will next see WSC action - beginning today at Bakersfield, home for two versus Antelope Valley on March 19 and versus Canyons on March 20. All conference games are scheduled to start at 2:30pm. The week will wrap up with a road contest versus Compton on March 22 at the MLB Academy.
