SB | Sweep sends Vikes to Super Regionals, 7-1 over Reedley
Pitcher Nicole Nordahl goes the distance with complete games in back-to-back postseason games
PLEASANT HILL -- Diablo Valley got the party started early in Game 2 of the CCCAA NorCal Regionals. In consecutive games, the Vikings were able to apply early pressure on the Tigers of Reedley College by scoring two runs in the bottom of the 1st. Julia Pelletier supplied the RBIs to score Cynthia Duenas and All-State Shortstop Ashley Allen to give the Vikings an early 2-0 lead.
Command issues continued to be a problem in Game 2 for Bitzy Flores of Reedley, who ended up issuing 26 free passes over the span of both games (21 walks and 5 hit-by-pitch). Three of Flores' seven runs allowed were by the way of walks with the bases loaded.
One day after Game 1, where Nicole Nordahl fanned 13 Reedley hitters en route to her first win of the postseason, she didn't register her first strikeout until the 4th inning in Game 2. The freshman from Albany High manufactured outs in different ways today, relying more on the defense behind her. Nordahl struck out five batters and allowed only four hits through seven innings of work for her 15th complete game thrown this season.
Diablo Valley moves on the face San Joaquin Delta College in the CCCAA NorCal Super Regional on Friday, May 8th at the College of San Mateo in the double-elimination tournament.
