Saddleback wins in five

The Saddleback softball team picked up a second non-conference win this week with a 10-1 win over Compton College on Wednesday at Bobcats Field.  The Bobcats had a big first inning in breezing past Compton.

Saddleback scored six times in the opening inning to take a huge lead out of the gate.  The Bobcats sent 10 batters to the plate and had six hits and a walk in the inning.  Mia Fogle led off the inning with a single and then stole second base before McKenzie Lombard followed with a bunt single to put runners at the corners with no outs.  Ka'ui Garcia walked to load the bases before Macy Smith doubled to score Fogle and Lombard with the first runs of the game.  Saddleback had three more hits in the inning from Malia Garcia, Jenna Juarez and Cristen Areopagita as the Compton starter never made it out of the first inning.

Saddleback added another run in the second inning when putting together three straight singles from Smith, Malia Garcia and Tasneem Kerdiya.  The Bobcats tacked on three insurance runs in the bottom half of the third inning, taking advantage of some pitching woes and defensive miscues.  Areopagita and Fogle walked to lead off the inning and both came around to score two batters later on a hard grounder from Ka'ui Garcia that ate up the second baseman.  Two batters later, Malia Garcia flew out to center field and Ka'ui Garcia tagged up to score the 10th run of the game.

Saddleback started Smith on the mound and she pitched three solid innings before leaving with a big lead.  Isabelle Gedeon pitched the final two innings in mop-up duty.

Saddleback is now 18-6 overall following the win.  The Bobcats head back into Orange Empire Conference play next week with a three-game series against Orange Coast College.  The Bobcats and Pirates get things started on Monday at Orange Coast at 2:00 PM.
