Baseball Battles Rival Bulldogs in WSC Play this Week

Cuesta Baseball opened its 2022 Western State Conference schedule with a three-game sweep of Ventura, but remain under .500 for the season at 7-9 overall.  This wek, the Cougars dive deeper into their WSC schedule with three games, including two in Santa Maria, against local rival Allan Hancock.  The Bulldogs are one of only two teams in the seven-team WSC to boast a winning record on the season, however they are also the only ranked team circuit.  The 24th-ranked Bulldogs host the Cougars on Tuesday (2 PM) and Saturday (1 PM), while playing the sandwich game in SLO on Thursday (2 PM).

The Cougars completed their three-game sweep of Ventura on the road, 11-1, on Saturday.  The Cougars scored in their first at-bat, but the Pirates manufactured a run off Cuesta Starter Woody Brennan (pict) with a leadoff walk, a balk and a RBI-single to tie the game in the second inning.  Brennan settled down after that with ten straight outs and handed a 7-1 lead to the bullpen in the 8th inning.  First Baseman Holden Cumiskey (pict) did most of the offensive damage for Cuesta.  He was 3-for-4, including a Double, while scoring twice and driving in four runs.
