LPC outlasts Feather River for 5-3 win at home
LIVERMORE – Freshman Edwin Zabala scored two goals and added an assist to help lead the Las Positas College men's soccer team to a 5-3 victory over visiting Feather River College in the Hawks home opener on Thursday.
The two teams exchanged leads in the first half before Las Positas erased a 3-2 deficit by scoring three unanswered goals in the second to pull out the victory.
Griffin LaFluer gave LPC and early 1-0 lead with his goal in the fifth minute, followed by Zabala's first goal in the 14th minute.
With LPC leading 2-0, Feather River responded with three consecutive goals to close out the half. Down 3-2 at the break, Christian Neves delivered the equalizer in the 75th minute. Zabala followed with the eventual game-winning goal in the 80th and Rylan Stowell secured the victory by scoring in the 83rd.
The win improved Las Positas to 2-0 early in the season. The Hawks return to action on Wednesday (Sep. 7) when they travel to Modesto Junior College for a 2 p.m. non-conference game.
