Rio Hondo edges Chaffey for 15-12 win
WHITTIER – Matthew Reynoso scored a game-high 5 goals to help lead the Rio Hondo College men's water polo team to a 15-12 South Coast Conference win over visiting Chaffey College on Wednesday.
The victory snapped a four-game losing streak for the Roadrunners. Rio Hondo improved to 5-9 overall and 1-4 in conference play.
Rio Hondo fell behind early. The Roadrunners trailed 3-2 after the first quarter and went into halftime facing an 8-4 deficit.
But the Roadrunners came alive in the third. Rio Hondo scored six unanswered goals to open the period, including three from Reynoso, to take a 10-8 lead.
Chaffey rallied to tie up the game at 10-10 in the fourth, but Reynoso responded with the go-ahead goal to put Rio Hondo back out for good with 6 minutes to play. The Roadrunners went on to outscore Chaffey 5-3 in the fourth to hang on for the win.
Kevin Morales added 3 goals for the Roadrunners while Roberto Castanon-Delgado, Josiah Torres, and Ivan Morales all scored twice. Royce Jones also scored.
Matthew Escobar was credited with 6 saves in goal for the Rio Hondo win.
