Patience Propels Vaqs Past Oxnard

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The Vaqueros' discipline at the plate and reliable starting pitching led Santa Barbara City College to a 7-3 win over Oxnard College on Friday at Pershing Park.

Breaking open a scoreless game in the bottom of the fifth, Benjamin Strutt earned a bases-loaded walk before a pitch hit Aidan Camberg and Ethan Rodriguez recorded his first sac fly of the game to jump out to a 3-0 lead.

Strutt earned his second RBI of the game when he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the sixth. 

Elias Athanas picked up two RBIs with a base hit in the seventh. He, Logen Seeger and Toshinari Kurokawa recorded extra bases for the Vaqueros.

Nick Putnam earned his second victory of the season, going five scoreless innings and recording six strikeouts. The four Vaquero pitchers struck out a total of 13 condors in the win.

Santa Barbara (9-7, 6-2 WSC) plays at 1 p.m. Saturday in Oxnard.
