Bobcats end four-game skid
The Saddleback baseball team defeated College of the Sequoias, 5-0, on Tuesday afternoon in Visalia, California. The Bobcats ended a four-game losing streak with the win.
Saddleback entered the game on Tuesday having lost four straight games for the first time since the COVID-shortened season in 2021. It was an opportunity for the Bobcats to get out of town with the annual trip to the Central Valley and with it, attempt to regroup after a pair of humbling series losses in Orange Empire Conference play.
Saddleback looked solid, dominating the game from start to finish. The Bobcats scored a solo run in the top half of the first inning when Dmitri Susidko led off the game with a single and later came around to score on a single from Rodrigo Barajas.
Saddleback scored two more times in the second inning as Andreas Nilsen led off the inning with his first home run of the season and later Susidko drove home Joey Doskocil, who had doubled earlier in the inning.
Saddleback tacked on two more runs in the top half of the fifth inning when Barajas doubled home both Jake Tyler and Susidko for a 5-0 advantage.
Saddleback's five runs were more than enough for a pitching staff that seemed intent on sending a message. Sammy Cova started and pitched through the sixth inning in improving to 4-3 on the season. Cova struck out five while walking none before giving way to the bullpen. Andrew Padova came on and shut down the Giants for two innings before Sterling Rapp came in to pitch a perfect ninth inning. In total, Saddleback pitchers struck out nine Sequoias hitters while walking none in what was one of the better performances of the season.
Susidko led the offensive output, finishing 3-for-4 with a walk and two runs-scored. Barajas and Nilsen both finished with two hits apiece as Saddleback outhit Sequoias 10-5 for the day.
Saddleback is now 14-9 overall following the win. The Bobcats and Giants will battle again on Wednesday at 1:00 PM in Visalia in the final game of the Central Valley Tour.
