MARAUDER WOMEN'S SOCCER LOSES FIFTH STRAIGHT, MENDOZA INJURED

BAKERSFIELD - The Marauder women's soccer team lost its fifth consecutive game at the hands of Bakersfield College, 2-0, Tuesday night at Memorial Stadium.

"Bakersfield is a good team and they're well coached and they definitely presented a quality challenge for us. I thought tonight we had several opportunities to score, but we didn't capitalize," AVC head coach Charles Gordon said. "We're competing in every game and each game has been extremely close. We need to work on our consistency and capitalize on every opportunity."

AVC (5-7-5, 0-4) also suffered another loss in Ana Mendoza who left the game in the sixth minute of the second half after she was pounded to the ground by a Bakersfield player after Mendoza headed the ball in the air when the opposing player flew in the air and hit Mendoza as she landed in the ground, while hitting her head hard on the grass. The Renegade player was only given a yellow card.

Mendoza was rushed to a nearby hospital where she was treated for concussion symptoms and other tests. She was released at nearly midnight and drove home with the team. Her status is unknown for the Marauders next game at home against Victor Valley on Friday.

"(When she left) it kind of took the momentum away from the team," Gordon said. "It seemed to way on the players."
