The Long Beach City College baseball team suffered a tough 12-2 loss to Santa Ana College on Wednesday afternoon.
The Vikings took an early lead in the third inning when third baseman Alejandro Rosas scored on a wild pitch, but Santa Ana responded with three runs in the fourth to go ahead 3-1. The Vikings cut the deficit to 4-2 in the sixth after a groundout RBI from center fielder Danny Rodriguez brought home left fielder Myles Fendrick.
Santa Ana took control in the seventh, scoring five runs, highlighted by a two-run homer to left field. The Dons added three more runs in the eighth and ninth innings, capitalizing on a few Vikings errors to secure the win.
Starting pitcher Myles Dismute (3-2) threw six innings, allowing three earned runs while striking out eight.
"We haven't played well the last two days, but it's all about conference now," said head coach Casey Crook. "We're in a good position to finish in the top three and make the playoffs, so we'll take a little time off here and be ready to go next week."
The Vikings will return to action next week as they travel to Compton College on Tuesday, March 25 at 2 p.m.
