The Mt. SAC Men's Water Polo Team ended the Bruce Watson Invitational with two wins and two losses on October 11 and 12.
The weekend started with challenging matches on Friday, where the team faced tough opponents. They fell 18-12 to the No. 1 ranked West Valley College and suffered an 18-7 loss to No. 7 American River College.
Against West Valley, Michael McMillan and George Roby-Unkovich each netted three goals, while Nico Flores and Nico Lara contributed two goals apiece. The Mounties had a shooting percentage of 38.7%, scoring 12 goals on 31 attempts, compared to West Valley's 47.4% with 18 goals on 38 attempts.
In the match against American River College, Trevor Davis scored three goals, but the team struggled with a shooting percentage of just 21.9%, converting seven of 32 attempts. In contrast, American River achieved a 72% success rate, scoring 18 goals on 25 attempts.
The Mounties regrouped on Saturday, securing a 13-10 victory over Diablo Valley College. They closed out the tournament with an impressive 24-15 win against Las Positas, led by Trevor Davis's standout performance with seven goals. The goalkeepers also excelled, collectively making 10 saves to fend off Las Positas.
Head Coach Marc Ruh reflected on the team's performance, saying, "Our team is dedicated to learning and improving, growing both individually and together with each step forward. We are always grateful for the opportunity to continue to get better and for the college's continued support."
Looking ahead, the Mounties are preparing for a crucial conference matchup against No. 4 ranked Long Beach College on Wednesday, October 16, at 4:30 PM. The Mounties hold a 14-10 overall record and are 2-0 in conference play, while Long Beach has a 10-2 overall record, also sitting at 2-0 in conference action.
