
VC pitcher Jacob Roa scattered three hits over seven scoreless innings and Cole Blommer struck out for our his six outs to finish the job as Ventura finished a three-game sweep over Oxnard 8-0 Saturday at Pirate Park. Matthew Ramirez was 3-4 at the plate with a run scored and Henry Borjas recorded a pair of hits with three runs batted in and a run scored in the shutout victory.
Ventura (10-11, 8-4) took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second. Lucas Martinov led off with a single and moved to second when Ben Drumheller reached base on an error. Tommy Castaneda made it to first on a fielder's choice that retired Martinov at third before Borjas hit a two-out RBI single.
The Pirates extended the lead to 3-0 with a pair of scores in the sixth inning. Brandon Contreras and Martinov hit consecutive singled to lead off the frame. Drumheller moved the runners ahead 90 feet with a sacrifice and Jacob Tostado walked with two outs to load the bases. Borjas then welcomed a new Oxnard pitcher to the game with a two-RBI single.
VC blew the game open in the bottom of the eighth. With one out, Tostado singled and Borjas drew a base on balls. Ramirez followed with a single to fill the diamond and Grant Rodriguez knocked home two runs with a single. Caden Stillwell then cleared the remaining two runners from the base paths with a two-RBI triple and Martinov sent him home with a two-out single, setting the final 8-0 margin.
The Pirates take a break from conference play with a two-game set against Los Angeles Mission College. VC will host the Eagles on Tuesday Mar. 18 before traveling to Sylmar on Wednesday Mar. 19.
