Game 1: Sac City 0 - 2 Bear Cubs
The Santa Rosa Junior College Bear Cubs locked in a 2-0 victory against the Sacramento City College Panthers (4th ranked team in the North, 8th in the State) in a tightly contested matchup. Strong pitching by Mia Avila and timely hitting proved to be the difference as the Bear Cubs capitalized on their scoring opportunities while keeping the Panthers off the board.
SRJC broke through in the third inning when Gabby Schenone led off with a single and later came around to score on an RBI fielder's choice by Mira Olvera, taking advantage of a defensive miscue by the Panthers.
The Bear Cubs extended their lead in the fifth, with Schenone again sparking the offense with a single. Olvera followed up with a clutch RBI double down the left-field line, bringing home the second run of the game.
Sacramento City struggled to get anything going against Avila, managing only two hits throughout the contest. Sacramento City had a chance in the top of the seventh when Jenna Potter reached on a walk and advanced to third, but SRJC's defense held firm, shutting down the rally and sealing the win.
With solid defensive play and key offensive execution, the Bear Cubs secured the victory.
