LANCASTER - The Marauder softball team won its eighth game in a row holding off College of the Canyons, 7-6, Thursday afternoon at Marauder Stadium.
The victory gave AVC sole possession of first place atop the Western State Conference-South Division standings.
The Marauders (16-5, 4-0) exploded for four runs in the bottom of the second inning to take a 4-0 lead. They extended the lead to 7-3 and had to hold off the Cougars (12-3-1, 3-1) which scored one run in the top of the sixth inning and two more in the seventh.
Tawnee Hegre was impressive at the plate finishing 3-for-4 with two RBI. Paige Johnson added two more RBI to her state leading 47.
