Vikings Take Series Over No. 2 Cerritos Despite Game Three Loss
The Vikings baseball team secured a key SCC series win over No. 2 Cerritos College but fell short in game three, dropping a 5-1 decision to the Falcons on Saturday.
The Long Beach City College baseball team secured a key South Coast Conference series win over No. 2 Cerritos College but fell short in game three, dropping a 5-1 decision to the Falcons on Saturday.
The Vikings (13-9, 8-4 SCC) came into the series finale riding the momentum of back-to-back victories but struggled to find their rhythm offensively against a tough Cerritos pitching staff.
Long Beach struck first in the opening inning when pitcher Max Ghiglieri roped an RBI double to bring center fielder Danny Rodriguez across the plate for an early 1-0 lead. However, the Falcons responded in the second inning, tying the game on a sacrifice fly.
Cerritos took advantage of Viking miscues in the fourth inning, scoring three runs to seize control of the game before extending their lead to 5-1 in the seventh.
On the mound, Ghiglieri (3-2) took the loss despite a solid effort, allowing three earned runs over 3 innings while striking out two. Adrian Arellano, Thomas Adair, and Sean Lovett combined for 5.1 innings of relief, limiting the Falcons to just one additional run.
The Vikings will return to the field on Monday, March 17 against Cypress College at 2 p.m.
