The Cuesta Nine Complete Sweep of Oxnard to Open WSC Play

Cuesta Baseball opened its 2025 Western State Conference schedule with a win over visiting Oxnard on Tuesday, 19-3, before winning on the road at Oxnard, 8-3, on Thursday    and completing the sweep, 17-7, back in SLO today.  Cuesta Starter Justin Cortez went six innings to secure the decision before handing a ten-run lead to the bullpen for the last three innings.  The Condors scored four more times, but it barely put a dent in the Cougars' advantage.  On offense the Cougars had plenty of stars on the day, but were led by Sophomore Aidan Botti, who enjoyed a four-hit game and added two runs scored and three driven in.  First Baseman Tristan Usher and Outfielder Jak Sinclair both spent time on the mound, while allowing a combined four runs to the Condors, but they made up for it on offense.  Usher went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and four driven in, while Sinclair smacked a pair of doubles and also drove in four runs.  In all, nine Cuesta batsmen earned at least one of the teams 16 safeties on the day.  The victory moved the Cougars to 8-6 on the season and 3-0 against the Western State Conference.

The Cougars are on a four-game winning streak that shall be put to the test next weekend with their WSC series against Santa Barbara City.  The meeting of the Vaqueros and Cougars shall be especially important with both the Tuesday's and Saturday's games being played in Santa Barbara's Pershing Park.  The Cougars will also host the Vaqueros on Wednesday (2 PM).  The Cougars are looking to get their title back from the Vaqueros, who won their first outright title since 2011, despite the Cougars posting one more conference victory than they needed to win the title in
