COD Softball sweeps double header with Wolverines, 5-4 & 7-6

COD (6-11; 3-2) hosted an exciting day of softball, as the Roadrunners scored late in game one for a win, then snagged a walk-off win in game two, to sweep the San Bernardino Valley Wolverines (5-14; 1-3), 5-4 & 7-6.

Freshman short stop Davia Hines (Palm Springs H.S.) and leadoff hitter, went 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored in game one and 2 for 4 with a run scored and two runs batted in (RBI's) in game two. Hines' single gave Desert a 3-0 lead in game one and her double in game two gave the Roadrunners a 3-1 lead. Both of Hines' knocks in game two were doubles.

Sophomore right handed starting pitcher / first baseman Lauren Robinson (La Quinta H.S.) went 4 for 4 with an RBI in game one, including clobbering the game winning double to score Hines in game one in the 6th as well as toss a complete game. In the circle, Robinson surrendered four runs, all earned, on nine hits, with two walks and two strike outs in grabbing her third win of the season. She would also go 3 for 4 with two RBI's and a run scored in game two. Robinson would punch the hit that scored Hines in the 1st and grab the hit that would tie the game at 5-5 in the 4th.

Freshman second baseman Porschea Miranda (Rancho Mirage H.S.) went 2 for 3 with a run scored in game one, scoring in the second inning to put the Roadrunners up 2-0.

Freshman left fielder / right fielder Annabelle Amador (Indio Shadow Hills) who scored the game winner in game two, went 2 for 2 with two runs scored, walking twice in that game and went 2 for 3 in game two.

Freshman third baseman / designated player Jessie Rios-Huerta (La Quinta H.S.) was the hero in game two, grabbing the game winning hit, going 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored. In game one, Rios-Huerta clobbered a double, which scored two runs and then later crossed home plate, as Desert built up a 4-0 lead in the 2nd inning as she went 1 for 3 with a run scored and two RBI's.

Sophomore catcher Natalie Avila (Rancho Mirage H.S.) went 1 for 2 with two walks in game one and went 2 for 4 in game two.

It was the offensive production of freshman designated player / third baseman Elizabeth Felix (Rancho Mirage H.S.) in game two, in the bottom of the seventh, which tied the game at 6-6, going 2 for 4 and then going 1 for 3 in game one.

Freshman right handed starting pitcher Amaya Magana (La Quinta H.S.) tossed a complete game in game two, allowing six runs, five earned, on 15 hits and a walk in her third win of the season.
