COD Baseball hosts matinee mauling of the Arabs, 15-1

COD (4-4) got back to their winning ways as they welcomed in an old Conference rival and grabbed a lopsided win over the Imperial Valley Arabs (1-5-1), 15-1.

Freshman right handed starting pitcher Taishin Matsushita (Kofu Senior H.S. in Kofu, Japan) tossed five innings and grabbed five strike outs for his first win of 2022, as five different Roadrunners pitchers combined to hold Imperial Valley to two hits. Freshman right handed relief pitcher Kevin Sanchez (Indio Shadow Hills), freshman right handed relief pitcher Austin Stover (Lake Forest El Toro), freshman right handed relief pitcher Johnny Young (Redding Shasta) and freshman right handed relief pitcher Matthew Sapakoff (Littleton, CO) all contributed to the win from the mound.

Freshman right fielder Kaelor Fogo (Aurora (CO) Smoky Hill) had a nice day in the lead off spot, going 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored and a run batted in and sophomore left fielder William Owens (Crescent City, FL) went 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI's from the three hole in the lineup.

Freshman third baseman Spencer Dickinson (Rancho Mirage H.S.) went 2 for 4 with 2 RBI's from the clean-up spot and freshman second baseman Graham Gonzales (Valparaiso, IN) grabbed 2 walks and scored 3 runs from the five hole.

Sophomore first baseman Jaxon Millet (Bethel, CT) went 2 for 2 with 2 runs scored and freshman designated hitter Elvis Farina, Jr. (Orange Park (FL) Oakleaf) went 1 for 4 with 3 RBI's and a run scored.

Freshman short stop Brian Parry (Redlands H.S.) went 2 for 5 with 2 RBI's and a run scored from the nine hole in the lineup.

Desert would get the party started in the second, scoring both runs on two separate wild pitches, giving the home side an early 2-0 lead.

In the third, eleven Roadrunners arrived at the plate and scored six runs. A one out single to center by Owens, scored Fogo and later in the inning, a two out bases loaded single to left would score Owens to give Desert a 4-0 lead. A bases loaded walk to freshman catcher Martin Sanchez (Beaumont H.S.) added another run and chased the Arabs starting pitcher. A double to left by Parry scored two more and a passed ball on a strike out swinging by Fogo, scoreed Sanchez, giving the Roadrunners an 8-0 lead.

In the fourth, Desert added two more runs on a Farina, Jr. fielder's choice, which scored Gonzales and Dickinson.

The Roadrunners would add five more runs in the fifth, when Owens punched a bases loaded single to right, scoring Parry and Dickinson doubled to left scoring two more. Owens would score on a ground out and Dickinson would score on a fielder's choice.
