Dons Hold Off ELAC in 2-1 Win

SANTA ANA, Calif. - Santa Ana College Softball rallied for two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take the lead for good in their 2-1 victory over East Los Angeles College (1-4) on Friday afternoon. 

Sophomore shortstop Aidee Mendoza drove in the first run of the day for the Dons (3-1) with an RBI double to center field to score freshman infielder Gracie Barrios from first base. After advancing to third on an errant throw, Mendoza came home thanks to a sacrifice fly to center by sophomore outfielder Kaitlin Murphy

Freshman pitcher Kalani Gonzales held off the Husky bats in the seventh to pick up her second win of the season. The righthander out of Godinez went the last inning and two thirds with a strikeout and a walk. 

Fellow freshman pitcher Karen Vasquez got the start once again and had a solid performance. Vasquez conceded just one run in five and a third innings while striking out one.

Santa Ana will take the weekend to rest before starting the week with another home matchup against Oxnard College on Monday at 1:00 p.m. The Condors will enter the game with a record of 2-2 after falling to Rio Hondo 8-3 on Wednesday.
